MusicMad’s Help Page

Hi everyone,

This is has been created for all of those that wish to help MusicMad identify the music found here – http://rapidshare.com/files/208889770/cassette_rip_samples.zip.
As the name implies, it’s a rip of some samples found on a cassette he made a long time ago. For those of you who didn’t read his comment, here it is pasted in full –

Dear QuietMusic,
This is a terrific site, I added it recently to my favourite, all the links are working, wish you continuous success…
I wonder if I can request an album(s) for Steve Haun (inside the sky), it contains a wonderful track called (Reflections). I searched the net for hours but I couldn’t find a free link! Could u please, your efforts will be much appreciated.
Also, I have an old cassette that contains the most beautiful classic I’ve ever heard, but due to its old age I wanted to have the tracks as MP3 quality, but I do not know the tracks names, I wonder if I send u a ripped part of the tracks would u be able to know & name them & send me the links for their albums?
For this I need your email to send attachments.
Regards,

Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!

@MusicMad,

Have a strong feeling that i have heard the ‘Favourite Track’ Before , from DanGibson’s Solitude Series.

But Must say Quitemusic is looking all over For it.

Hi Dawnz
Thank you for the first comment you made, I nearly lost hope….!
I’ll try to listen to Dan, and please keep tracing for the others… This music collection is my favourite, and I’m sure others like me do the same…

Hi Dawnz,
I’m listening to Solitude series but most if not all of them are water/ocean ambient combined with nature sounds, I cannot find any Guitar instrument in these albums? any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello QuietMusic,
Thank you for identifying track 7, it is really for Richard Clayderman.
Cool, please guide me to the others. If you have friends with musical ears that can help us please do so.

@MusicMad
You’re very welcome for the identification of track 7. Unfortunately, the rest of the tracks that I didn’t put a notation on, I have not even heard.

@MusicMad
I have a mental block everytime I hear the Favorite track. Some parts of it sound tooo much similar to “Those were the days” by mary hopkins (which my dad loved). But hey on the positive note, I reccomend you hear that song. you should like that :-) At some level, this song and that song may have something in common. direct link to that song is:

Track 9 title is “Baby Come to Me” but sorry I don’t know that artist.

You can also find Kenny G doing a version.

@Kunal
Thanks for leaving a comment, but Mary Hopkins has nothing to do with this Guitar track as the track is a pure music not a song or part of a song, in addition it is not ancient as the mentioned singer, I estimate it to be from the late 90’s.

@Fantom
You’re entirely correct. After I’m done answer the comments made, I’ll modify the page to show that. Thank you!

@MusicMad
I think what Kunal was trying to get across is that the styles are similar, not that Mark Hopkins is the one performing the song.

@Fantom
Cool man, you r absolutely right! Thanx
I’m digging the net to find the instrumental version just the same as mine!

@MusicMad
Don’t know if you noticed or not, but I was able to confirm that the track I had listed as possibly being Chet Atkins is. Specifically it’s the song “Sails”. I’ve tried finding the album, but didn’t have any luck initially. I’ll continue to search after I post today’s rather large update, lol. For your verification, here’s a link for you to be able to hear a sample of “Sails” – http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/7347741/a/Sails.htm

DEAR QUIETMUSIC,
Infinite thanx to your efforts, priceless…. I’m also looking to find (Sails.mp3).
And I’m pleased to say that I’ve found it, yes I found Track 1 (My Favourite)!
After a huge effort, I searched the net for “Guitar Collection” and I just came across an album for (John Williams) and after I downloaded it! BOOOM! the track was among them, called (Traditional – Romance). The links for this album are:

*Editorial Note – I had to remove your links as wordpress will not allow me to approve the comment with any form of Rapidshare links in them. This is fairly new, I would guess somewhere within the last couple of days.

Enjoy,
QUIETMUSIC, you are wonderful!

@MusicMad
I’ve got very good news for you. I have managed to find the entire album “Sails”, however the download is incredibly slow. Hopefully it will be finished by the end of today. Thank you very much for the links on that compilation. I’m downloading them right now, and once they are downloaded will reupload them so that WordPress will allow them. Not sure I like where their censoring is heading, but not a whole lot that can be done about it. Keep your chin up, I’m certain that eventually all those tracks will be identified =_).

Hiiii,
Can’t believe it, thanks again for the Sails, would like to download it ASAP.
I’m doing my detective work as well for the rest of the tracks,
I’m happy…

Hi MusicMad,
Thanks for finding out the details for your fav for all of us! I got the song, but it seems somewhat slower. Do you know the details or where can I get the same one that you posted a clip for ??

Thanks again, and a lot ! :)

MusicMad

Hi Kunal,
You are absolutely right, the (John Williams) performance for this song is a bit slow in tempo, the one I posted is much nicer! but I couldn’t find it on the net despite the long search! I found 2 more performers (Japanese) but also they done it differently from my fav! I think it is Spanish song, so if you could look for this in your search.
What I did, I ripped it from my old cassette and done some wave modification and it became cool but not as MP3 quality.
The guy who made this cassette collection is amazing! but unfortunately didn’t put the track names!
LOL

Hi MusicMad, sorry about the late responce…
You want to be searching for “Spanish Romance” also… and from “Forbidden Games” some of the stuff I have found is more like your fav. email me at fanaa0@gmail.com (thats a zero not O) for that file, but its not EXACTLY same as the one you have, but it is close enough. Haha, im obsessed with finding that one since the first time i heard it. lol.

MusicMad,
Sorry, after comparing your sample to the MP3 I have, i THINK it might be the SAME :)

I know just how aggrevating it can be to have some old tunes laying around on cassettes without knowing anything about the artists or the source. Anyway – I gave it a shot myself, and I believe I have identified three more tracks;

Track 2:
Sting – The Soul Cages (2001)
Saint Agnes and The Burning Train (2:43)

Track 5:
Mark Knopfler – Screenplaying (2001)
Irish Boy (4:39)

Track 11:
Sky – Anthology (2004)
To Yelasto Pedi (?)

I know it does not help you in any way, but a couple of the tracks sounds almost like something Percy Faith, Mantovani or perhaps even James Last could have recorded. But I am unfortunately unable to identify them right now.

Thank you so much! I’ll let MusicMad respond directly about each of your identifications =_). All said and done, you’re an amazing person for going to the lengths you already have, so thank you very much!

Hi there MusicMad – glad to hear I could be of help here.

I did actually try pretty hard to identify the other tunes you had uploaded, but with no success I’m afraid.

I started out with searching for the tunes I had a general idea of what might be. Then I turned to tools used for identifying acoustic fingerprints (read more about the method and some of the tools here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_fingerprint)

Thanks to Tunatic I was able to find the titles and artists mentioned above. There exists also a number of other tools for using audio fingerprints for searching – but most of these are commercial or integrated in other tools. You will find a link to the most well-known in the wikipedia link I provided.

The problem is that most of these tools are not used to lookup artists – but rather identify properties with the music in order to come up with recommendations for similar kind of music and artists.

But I will keep this in the back of my mind. I know there exists a search page out there called something with maxtor or mextor – that should do a pretty good job at finding such tunes, but I have been unable to find the exact name.

However, my initial comments are still valid – I suspect some of the other tunes have been recorded by artists or orchestras like Percy Faith, Mantovani, James Last. One of them even sounded like something Rondo Veneziana might have played – but I am pretty certain none of their tunes were among the samples you uploaded.

Dear Flimmer,
I’m speechless in thanking you, you really done a favour for me…
We’re nearly there, I’m sure with your help we can identify the others.
As for track 1 (Traditional – Romance) I could find the track but different performer, I’m still eager to find the original.
All the best pal :)
