The most beautiful things about the site, for someone such as me, is that it is not the ‘hosted links’ that I come for, but your awesome taste in music, and you sharing that information! A lot of the artists listed to the right, I had never heard of before coming to this site, but have found myself love many of them just as much as do my all time favorites (Enigma, Robert Miles, etc).
Just as valuable the information is, your active participation is just as rewarding, that is you are taking the time to respond to requests, and comments. Your suggestion of Era has proven priceless to me as I watched the music video of Divano, and it almost made tears in my eyes. We all can thank you over and over, but in the end I believe its those Artists that should thank you most, to give them the exposure they truly deserve.
And of course, until they start doing that, let me say Thanks… over and over again :-)

Thank you so much for your thoughts. It’s amazing to me how many people not only love these kinds of music, but also those that are so passionate about it. Music is such a big part of my life, and as always, when I hear the latest “music” bands, it just makes me cringe inside. In many ways, that’s why I’ve chosen to do this website. The hope was simply to share something beautiful to those of us that listen not only with our ears, but also our hearts. Your thanks and appreciation of what you find here is a tremendous reward in and of itself. So thank you for not only giving me something to look forward to everyday, but also making my life just that much more complete with what I would consider your friendship.

Thanks for replying back with such kind words :-) I know the feeling, and that’s why I had given up on finding good music. Before coming to this site, I filled my iPOD with tons of music, hoping to catch that feeling from various artists, based on what my friends hear. Then eventually I stopped listening to my iPOD until I found this site, and and I have found so much that I have been looking for all these years. its so true, and I do believe that new age fans are much more passionate about their choices in music. If i can suggest, you add a page with your personal recommendations like which artists, albums are your favorite. People can then respond with “their” favorites and so on. I think it would be a neat addition to your work. I replied back to your email with the Julee Cruise link, i hope you got the email, and it didn’t accidentally get filtered junk.

@Kunal
Thank you very much for such a well thought out response! It’s great to hear that you’re listening to your iPod again =_). In regards to the page about my personal recommendations, that is definitely something I’ll think about. I can see how that would make the site seem more personal, and that’s a very good thing!

I received the email about the Julee Cruise link. I’m downloading it right now, so will have to post a little later about what I think of it. Thank you very much!

Hi Quietmusic,
listening to Julee Cruise and being in very good mood ;) I thought it wouldn’t be bad to say “thank you” once again. Not only for that CD, but for all the music you’re providing us. Your music taste is very similar to mine – lucky me :D. Maybe it’s not the right place here, but you might give a try to the french band Artesia and spanish one Trobar de Morte. I like this music very much. Be safe and “see” ya…

@NewA
I’m delighted to hear you like Julee Cruise =-). This album blew me away the first time I heard it. As to the artists you mentioned – Artesia & Trobar de Morte, I’ve heard of both, but don’t have any of their work. But I’ll add them to my searchlist and see what can be found. Thank you very much once more and I hope you enjoy all the music you find here!

Dear Quietmusic,
I can say that since I coincidently found your site, my main web surfing is your page, I visit it nearly every 5 minutes! You beautifully replied to my every comment, and meet my requests when you can… And a huge appreciation from me because you created a help tab for my interest…
I feel that I’m flying when I see the albums, and my soul is refining…
LOL

@MusicMad
I have to say, what you are describing would be about the best scenario possible in my mind. Origionally, this website was just designed as a central location for some of my friends to be able to download files. It’s grown so much, and given me so much pleasure that in many ways, I’m truly astounded. We are now reaching 3000+ hits daily, and the growth has been steady. That to me is just astonishing. I’ve spent a significant amount of time not only watching the web grow, but actually being a part of it. And when I finally decide to put a website up, this happens lol. So needless to say I would love to know that everyone visiting enjoys the site as much as you do, but realistically, I doubt that could happen.

One of the more interesting things that I’ve learned is just exactly how much this whole endeavor means to me personally. That is the reason why I try very hard to not only respond on a personal level, but also to try and treat everyone the way that I would like to be treated. Everyday, I really look forward to the time I will allow myself to spend on updates and so on. But the highlight for me are the comments and also the finding of music that people ask for. It wasn’t all that long ago that I struggled to find what I was looking for, and so the appreciation you show is really worth all the effort I put into the site.

I probably should add that even the money that I’ve spent purchasing different albums has been worth it. In this day and age, it is so rare to find people that are decent to eachother. And if this site somehow fosters or even helps those types of actions to grow, it’s worth every second and every dime.

So thank you for not only providing me with continual motivation, but also the appreciation shown for the efforts I mentioned earlier. =-)

This is where I got the album from – http://www.mgmusic.ltd.uk/albums/guy-sweens-gaya-of-wisdom.asp. Beyond that, there are multiple sites that will allow you to download it, but you wouldn’t have the full insert. Hope this helps!

Well, I thought it was about time for me as well to give a big kudo to QuietMusic. This place has certainly become on of the most expensive websites I have visited since I am ending up purchasing quite a bit of few of all the good albums that are being made available here.

What I am about to write would probably be more suitable for a blog – but this guestbook is as good a medium as any, I guess. The reality is that sites like this one fills a gap for small subgenres – like what new age in reality is. New age music gets very little exposure on TV or radio – or the web – with a few exceptions of course. At least compared to what other genres gets. And this is where we need people like QuietMusic to make old and new recordings with some of the best music available – so people can get to know and enjoy some of all the good music that has been produced.

Of course – artists like Vangelis, Kitaro, Enyo and Clannad do not need more exposure, but there are so many others that have more or less disappeared – just think of people like Tim Blake, Isoa Tomita, Ralph Lundsten with many, many more. Its so much great music that otherwise may be getting lost – simple because the artists doesnt have a big enough following. And this is why I believe a site like this has a lot going for it.

Regarding copyright issues – well, I can understand the record companies and artists gripes with this. I have myself worked with different kind of payment and distribution models in the past, but the sad truth is that in order for an artist to get exposure – and ultimately sale – he or she needs to get an audience. And there has to be some kind of binding through loyality and interest – and perhaps even sympathy – to get users to purchase more material from that artist. And I doubt this can be more noticeable than in the field of new age music.

I would like to end this guestbook greeting (which in reality is a small rant in disguise) by telling how I myself got interested in new age music back in the late seventies. I was just a kid back then, but heard this strange melodic and relaxing electronic music on a TV show. I didn’t know who the composer was, so I asked around in a record store. They were very helpful, although they couldnt identify the composer. They gave me instead a tip about a new musician called Jean Michel Jarre. I listened to his album (Oxygene btw) – and liked what I heard. I then went on to Vangelis (his Pulstar tune was legendary already back then), and then the ball just continued rolling. Btw – later I learned that the composer I originally was looking for was Ralph Lundsten.

The point with this small history is simply this; we need people like QuietMusic to get people to know the genre, being enthustiastic about the musical possibilities and artistic values – and help other affectionaries like myself to find new artists. There are not really all that many other sources we can check out entire albums in high quality and learn to like an artist.

Do you hear me EMI, Sony, MGM with many more?

Oh – and before I forget it; this is a great site QuietMusic. Thanks for all of your hard work here!

@Flimmer
WOW! Thank you so much for this! You hit upon so many of the points that really should have been emphasized. Your prose is masterful, and extremely well thought out. Hopefully some of the people that complained will take the time to read your eloquent post. One thing that probably should be pointed here is that there was never any profit created by this blog. It is simply just a place that people with similar tastes in music can find other artists that are similar and be able to interact with eachother. Some of the feelings that ran through my body when I realized that my account had been closed were betrayal, disgust, outrage, anger, frustration and lastly resentment. So much in this world of ours is ugly or unattractive. The music found here is the exact thing that helps keep that in balance. In so many ways, I’m more than a little bewildered by the fact that this has happened, but the only way to keep my mind straight, is to move forward. I do hope that you take the time to come to the new portal once it’s up and running. I have the feeling that you will be an incredible benefit to the community. Thank you once more for the support and the belief that you have shown not only in me personally, but also the motives behind why this blog was created in the first place. =-)

Seems like I should check back on this website more often – but thanks for your comment, QuitMusic. Yes, it was indeed very unfortunate that you experienced your account being revoked. It might not have been because of a report though – considering the amount of tools the record industry are using in order to identify copyrighted material, I wouldnt be surprised if they have been using methods like the before mentioned acoustic fingerprint (as I wrote a little bit about on musicmads help page), or simply just performed regular searches on rapidshare. Heck, this is the way I myself find a lot of the artists and albums I am interested in checking out. So I guess the best way to avoid such incidents in the future would simply be to split up the albums in multiple archives given nonsensensical names.

Anyway – that aside – what you definitively deserve praise for, is how you always have been faithful to the artists and albums by including reviews. You know – if you didn’t include the albums, this blog would have become a great place to look up artists, and perhaps even in time got artists that used to to post their material on MP3.com back in the days (this was how I first found artists like Gnomusy and Australis, you know).

I foresee that the future of your blog – or portal as it probably will end up becoming – probably will be based upon a general information section about the genre and artists, while you’ll have a community that is based on a username and password – but where you will have free access to all the other material.

This would make it safe for you to post material that will not be picked up by search engines, and you would also be more free to include other kinds of related material – like links to places you could purchase the music (amazon, homepages etc.) – in addition to users being able to rank the music and find friends sharing your music taste.

But this is just me making some mental doodles here. One way or another I am pretty confident this place will stay around for a long time to come. There should be little doubt that you have the absolute majority of users here behind you in your efforts.

@Flimmeren
I try to be as responsive to the comments made here on QuietMusic as is possible. One of the main benefits for me personally is just reading and talking to the regular visitors of the site. Literally makes my day, lol.

You might very well have the answer in terms of long-term growth of the site itself. Possibly offering samples instead of the full album would definitely be a route worth exploring. I do like the idea of having everything freely available, but just not sure to what extent. You’ve really given me some food for thought and for that I can’t thank you enough.

I would also like to thank you for pointing out that the majority of the users here are behind me in my efforts and such. It’s still amazing to me how incredibly personal this blog has become to me. That is thanks to you and the other wonderful people that visit =_)
