Crystal Lord was originally submitted to New World under the working title Primal Forces.   The original title perhaps better describes the theme and mood of this album, which is rich in sounds associated with the forces of nature.

Mysteries is all about healing and visualization and is intended to be helpful to anybody who is trying to come to terms with a life-changing event or seeking closure to a situation.  The title of the fifth track Ancestral Paths, sums up the theme to which this album was written.  At an emotional level, we continue to live through the same life-changes as our ancestors before us: births, deaths, relationships, illness and unforeseen events (both good and bad).  There is comfort in knowing that the many different paths we, as individuals, take through life have all been trodden countless times before by humankind – and humankind survives.  We never walk these paths alone.

With so many keyboard composers around at the moment, the use of non-keyboard instruments has always provided the extra qualities that make Runestone unusual.  Acoustic guitar, 12 string and nylon string guitars, mandolin, mandola as well as the usual keyboards and samplers all play a part in this album.  Various items of hand-percussion were used during the recording process to get away from standard sample loops:- frame drums, rainsticks, udu pot and (an old Runestone signature) a bunch of bamboo sticks chosen carefully from the garden centre.  Low frequency drones and expansive reverb techniques go further to enhance the relaxational qualities of the album.

Runestone – Stonehenge

folder10Runestone – Stonehenge
MP3 @ 320 Kbps | 48:05 min | 1994 | 126 MB | 10% Recovery Record

The idea to collaborate on an album started as a result of hearing Medwyn Goodall’s album Excalibur.    This album was the soon-to-be duo’s first exposure to New Age music and first impressions were to prove both profoundly inspirational and lasting.

Writing and recording Stonehenge started out as a partly social, partly curiosity thing, with Chris and Robert getting together once a week with an assortment of guitars and keyboards, some steam driven recording equipment and loads of cups of tea.

During those early days, and without the benefit of any sophisticated recording kit, this album took a lot of effort to produce.  All kinds of noise-making devices were tried out to create some of the strange background sounds that make the music distinctive and atmospheric, including bead curtains, garden canes and metal lampshades.  Scraping the ridged handle of a disposable razor made the dolphin-like clicking effect in “The Moon’s Gift”.

MP3 @ 320 Kbps | 49:42 min | 1999 | 130 MB | 10% Recovery Record

Swirling Dreams contains some of the calmest music and most etherial ambient effects Runestone produced throughout the 1990’s.  All of the familiar Runestone signatures are to be found in this album.  Weaving acoustic guitars, call and response keyboard arrangements, magical soundscapes and evocative backgrounds.  Swirling Dreams represents a seamless and harmonious blending of the musical styles of both musicians.

MP3 @ 256 Kbps | 56:17 min | 2007 | 112 MB | 10% Recovery Record

Based on a true event. Following a coastal storm, the ruin of an ancient circle of timbers was revealed, triggering one of todays unsolved mysteries, the lost henge. Inspired by these events, Runestone has instantly captured an evocative mystical mood that is quite profound and is perhaps their best musicalwork to date. Highly recommended.

Runestone surpass all that has been with an album that many will argue is their best ever….again! Melodic, a little more modern, but wonderfully atmospheric and mysterious.
